From the report it appears to be a direct hit kinetic kill defense system. It looks sorta like a large claymore that is triggered just before the offensive weapon strikes the armor. If true the downside is that the kinetic kill will also kill surrounding soldiers. and it doesn't work against secret or hidden IEDs.

Until there is a way to effective protect accompanying soldiers I don't think this defensive system will see battlefield use.

Something similar you may find on some Russian main battle tanks. T80-UM1 "Bars" and Chiorny Orjol  ("Snow Leopard" and "Black Eagle" in Russian)are good examples..These systems are called there Arena and Shtora.. also quite effective ones.. systems are using special directed fragmentation charges and launchers over turret are controlled by computer on board.. If radar discovers incoming threat it launches fragmentation grenade to destroy it.. completely automatic and these systems will miss about 3% of incoming AT grenades and rockets like I have heard

its nothing especially  new..thing is already in use.. maybe bit different methods but same result

but I imagine those systems are useless against real cannonfire.. SABOT shells from tankcannon will be unstoppable.

btw, Black Eagle is something pretty new.. image

Well, this is very good. We will now have a better chance of ridding the world of terrorism. I thought about what Ammond said, but it is actually saving more lives. If there was no forcefield, the tank would blow up, after so many hits, and kill the surrounding soldiers anyway. So, it is saving lives.

i cant see anything fake about this.

triggered just before the offensive weapon strikes the armor

from what i can see, its like a layer of ERA except for its a long way off.

extrordiany.

for defense against mines you can have a mine resistant viecle, so if you fitted this on one of them...

thats t 2 main causes of death in iraq gone.

but if you put this on a plane....

that would be a complete deadlock. you fire a missile and then it explodes without any damage.

if you have it too, then what?

firing at the enimy on a cannon. is your only option

in a plane travaling at 1200 mph, thats got to be tricky, and i suppose the're shells aswell and so could be tracked?

does it 'run out of ammo' like flares do you reckon? or maybe loose effectiveness?

any thoughts

but also.

mad!
