Wasn't it last Christmas that Target refused to let the Salvation Army ring
>> their bells in front of their stores?
>>
>>  Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association wrote.
>>
>>   "Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud
>>   sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our
>>    spring recognition event.
>>
>>
>>
>>   We received the following reply
>>   from the local TARGET management: " Veterans do not meet our
>>   area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action
>>   groups, gay (like me) & lesbian causes, and education."
>>
>>  So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and
>>   veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria,
>>   then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were
>>    not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just
>>   a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.
>>
>>  As a follow-up, I E-mailed the TARGET U.S. Corporate
>>   Headquarters and their response was the same. That 's their
>>   national policy.
>>
>>  Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow
>>   the  Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their
>>   stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would
>>   not allow families of employees who were called up for
>>   active duty  to continue their insurance coverage while
>>   th ey were on military service. Then as I dig further,
>>
>>  TARGET
>>   is a French-owned corporation.
>>
>>   Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET cannot support American
>>   Vet erans, then why should my family and I support their
>>   stores by spending our hard earned American dollars!
>>
>>  And, have their profits sent to France.
>>
>>
>>
>>   Without the American
>>   Vets, where would France be today?
>>
>>
>>
>>   "They, most likely would be speaking German and trading in Deutsch Ma rks"
>>
>>   Sincerely,
>>   Dick Forrey
>>   Veterans Helping Veterans
>>
>>
>>   Please send this on to everyone you know to let Target know we dont need
>> them either !

ya i never go to target anyway- its just a slightly more expensive wal-mart... but that is pretty strange that they refuse those charities. it makes me think that there is either more to the story or that their public relations director is a total idiot.

I myself am in the USAF and this makes me very upset.  I will no longer shop at Target.  Thanks for the info guys!   Lips Sealed

EDIT:
What makes me more sick is that Target is NOT French owned.  That makes me more upset Sad

A. Target is too high priced
B. My wife works for Wal-Mart (STOP LAUGHING Smiley ) and therefore we get a 10% Employee discount Wink

After reading this thread I won't even walk into a Target now.

P.S. They won't even let the Salvation Army ring bells around Xmas either

The only true thing about this e-mail is the Salvation Army part....but there are a lot of places that don't allow bell ringers.  But....Target donated $1million to help the Salvation Army get their website going.

BTW....this e-mail has been hanging around since 2003....the guy got upset for not getting a $100 from a local Target store....its policy not to contribute to solicitors.  The company at the Corporate level (US Owned since 1902) does the contributing.  So the angry vet should have gone to corporate.  That $100 may have been a heck of a lot more!

Do your research folks before judging....If we don't then Tehdude's wife wouldn't have a job.

Ironically my wife is considering working for Target now...guess that means I'll have a 10% discount there instead Smiley
