Okay I have heard of the RTW-20 that was created for light anti armor work, but I was wondering if a rifle version of the Gau-8 semi-auto or bolt action, would possible an anti tank weapon? and if so, would it just be more economical to have a magazine fed bazooka?

ok good old physics comes to the rescue here man, i dont know if youve ever tried but firing a 30mm cannon round would literally break your arm.
there is a reason why they put the GAU-8 avenger CANNON on an aircraft, its too damn powerfull for anything else.

the rounds would pierce armour, but why waste money on a rifle, when u can use a sraw, javelin LAW, carl gustav, rpg 7,9,11

and a magazine fed bazooka would weigh a ton, one round will kill a tank, in the real world, soldiers dont frag, if they have a good shot on a STATIONARY tank they MIGHT take a shot with an unguided rocket,
if they have a javelin they may consider taking out 2 maybe 3 tanks in a convoy from a range, but any more than 3 tanks and you stay wellllll away, call in air support

if that doesnt answer your question i dont know what will.

P.S you need a tandem warhead to get throught modern tank armour, unless you fire 2 or 3 bullets at the same time, and hit exactly the same spot you will not do any damage to a modern tank.

[EDIT] looking at the RT-20, the counter recoil tube reduces the range, power and accuracy of the bullet, stupid rifle that cannot compare to even a cheap and light anti tank weapon

another bit of info is that the GAU-8 cannon gets most of its power not from the shell, but from the kinetic force from the shell fired from the barrel.  The barrels are long, thus increasing the muzzle velocity.
The GAU-8 was specially developed for use in the YA-10 and YA-9 programs (precursor to the A-10) and no other aircraft could even carry it because of the size and the stress it imposed on the airframe during firing.  The A-10 usually does not fire for more than 1-1 1/2 seconds because the recoil actually will cause the aircraft to stall.
So, a handheld GAU-8? keep frickin dreaming, it would rip itself off of just about any vehicle.
