Hi all!!,
Am new to NAW and must admit i like what i have seen so far......NO stat whores for a start and some decent teamplay which for me is what this game should be all about :)I will however digress from this mod for now as i want to bring to peoples' attention another great game that i am into which is all the mnore appealing because it is free and always will be....Some of you may be old enough to remember the steel panthers series which came out around 1996-98 i believe..Great games in their day but sasdly lacking in realism....Some enthusiasts made a mod for the game and the publishers were so impressed with it that they gave the source code to the mod team(which then as now included 2 of the original coders)to develope for as long as they had the enthusiasm.......well is 2005 now and the game has just ported to windows.....This release includes armies and equiptment from 1946-2020..Includes all branches of the military for 72 countries......Equiptment  oobs etc have been exhaustively researched(these are enthusiasts remember not money making publishers)features include 15 different height values, many different types of terrain..>Infantry units can be loaded into apcs and helis for transportation.Tanks have electronic counter-measures like VRSS and ARENA which can be found on the latest western and russian MBTs.reactive and other armours also catered for...The view is top down and is hex based(though the hex grid can be turned off)Maps are fully customisable as is the number of rounds........100s of scenarios plus a campaign mode where you can play upto 200 battles vs computer having to buy new and replenish depleted units as you progress....all units accrue experience points as you go through the campaign..........in campaign mode you can play against 3 armies from 3 different nations.....I once had a chieftain MK12 status elite with 450 kills get knocked out by a stinking T55 round from behind.......was gutted...The more experience yor units are the better they perform but never get complacent.....This game has more features than i can possibily go into and yet the interface is very simple and the game graphical.......A lot of math is involved behind the scenes which you obviously dont see...All in all its a great tactical war game and is even used by some US military personnel for tactical training purposes...When you need timeout from FPS this is a great game to get your teeth into.If anyone is interested then you can find the links to the game below....Download the main game and BOTH the other patches before playing...You can also play this game by email against an opponent so if anyone wants a game let me know(i aint terribly good)
